Artist’s Biography

Christie Bundy finds special beauty in the light and landscape of Northern New Mexico and hopes that her vision and interpretation allows viewers to experience the richness for themselves. Christie’s love of the unique light that is native to the area infuses her compositions with warmth and depth. Shadows playing on the sensuous organic shapes and curves of ancient adobes feed her imagination and fill her work.

Over the years Chris has studied with many artists in the United States and in the U.K. One memorable summer was spent attending the Royal College of Art in London, England where she focused on life drawing and painting.

In May of 2019 Chris was awarded Signature Membership in the New Mexico Watercolor Society.

Chris and her husband, photographer Steven Bundy, live in the beautiful, quirky and creative town of Taos, New Mexico. Her art background and education have been varied and diverse and her love for New Mexico is evident in her work. She hopes you enjoy her work as much as she has enjoyed creating it.

Chris is currently, during these Covid times, finding great joy in going back to basics with indepth studies of drawing and color theory; as well as research into the lives and processes of her favorite illustrators.  She is enjoying practicing storytelling through illustration and the addition of mixed media to her watercolor paintings.

Artist’s Statement

It seems that I’ve been involved in some type of creative endeavor throughout my life. This focus turned to painting in the 1980’s. In the ensuing years life and art have intermingled and the journey has been wonderful beyond imagination. When the path of my life brought me to Taos, New Mexico, I knew that I had found my true home in this land rich with creative energy and history. It was a blessing to find that the same unique light which inspired the Impressionist painters in France was alive and well in the mountains of northern New Mexico. This light and the simple beauty of my surroundings inspire me every day. My wish as I’m creating a new work is that it will be infused with and radiate the magic, love and beauty that is my experience of New Mexico. My hope for viewers of my work is that they will see the world through my eyes and recognize the feelings that I wished to instill. Hopefully those feelings will inspire their imaginations to create stories of their own - in this way we can all participate in the creative process.
